Following other initiatives within the context of the history of science in Portugal, the IHC (Institute of Contemporary History) and its ‘Science’ research group from the University of Évora – IHC-CEHFCi (Studies in History, Philosophy and Scientific Culture) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon (FCSH-UNL), previously and already consolidated in the HetSci – Group of Studies in History and Science[1], are promoting a post-graduation international conference entitled “Biographical and Intellectual History of Science, Technology and Innovation: Philosophical Perspectives and Political Visions”, to be held next November 2017.
This is an International Conference of advanced training and postgraduate education and research in the History of Science field, although following an interdisciplinary and collaborative perspective, open to a specialized public as well as other interested and general public. Our main purpose is to value the biographical methodology approach in academic training and scholarly research, not just for the historiographic practice, where it is of increasing interest the conjunction between History of Science and Intellectual History, but also with regard to broader contexts of production and incorporation of knowledge both by the concerned communities and by a socially and publicly responsible society.
In this International Conference, we are encouraging fellow colleagues and post-graduation students to submit presentation proposals either of biographical accounts that are engaged in describing scientific practices as well as dissecting those intellectual rationales from the past, either of philosophical or political substance. In sum, the opportunity of this International Conference lies not merely in the large number of important individuals whose lives remain to be described, but more significantly in the contribution that biographical and imminently intellectual approaches could give to the study of Science, Technology and Innovation in history.

APRESENTAÇÃO
Enquadrando-se num lastro de iniciativas no âmbito da História da Ciência em Portugal, o IHC – Instituto de História Contemporânea (FCSH-UNL) e o seu grupo de investigação ‘Ciência’ – CEHFCi (Ciência, Estudos de História e Filosofia de Cultura Científica, anteriormente Centro de Estudos de História e Filosofia da Ciência, da Universidade de Évora), que tem como referencial a parceria entre o CEHFCi da Universidade de Évora e o IHC da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH-UNL) – já previamente consolidado no Grupo HetSci – Grupo de Estudos em História e Ciência[1], promovem o encontro internacional intitulado “História Biográfica e Intelectual da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação: Perspectivas filosóficas e visões de política”, a decorrer no próximo mês de Novembro de 2017.
Trata-se de um evento de formação avançada e pós-graduada na área da História da Ciência, em que se assume todavia um prisma interdisciplinar e colaborativo, aberto a um público especializado como a demais interessados, no sentido de valorizar a metodologia biográfica, não apenas para a prática historiográfica – em que se verifica o interesse crescente da conjunção entre História da Ciência e História Intelectual –, mas também no que respeita a contextos mais amplos de produção e incorporação do conhecimento, tanto pelas comunidades interessadas como por uma sociedade social e publicamente responsável.
Nesta Conferência Internacional encorajamos colegas e estudantes de pós-graduação a submeterem propostas de contributos biográficos, empenhados em descrever práticas científicas e / ou em dissecar racionalidades intelectuais do passado, seja de substância política ou filosófica. Em suma, a oportunidade desta Conferência Internacional reside no grande número de individualidades importantes, cujas vidas permanecem por ser descritas, bem como na contribuição que abordagens biográficas e intelectuais podem dar ao estudo da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação na história.
